Having found traces of the White Pongo, an albino gorilla (to noone's surprise
played by Crash Corrigan) thought to be the missing link, somewhere in the
swamplands of the Congo river, explorers Sir Harry (Gordon Richards) & Van
Doren (Lionel Royce) waste little time to mount an expedition to this region,
which is led by the sinister guide Hans Kroeger (Al Eben), & also attended -
amongst others - by Sir Harry's daughter Pamela (Maris Wrixon), his secretary
Carswell (Michael Dyne), rifleman Bishop (Richard Fraser) & cockney big
game hunter Baxter (George Lloyd).
& as if it wasn't enough that the white
Pongo himself is already following them in secret & has laid his eyes on
lovely Pamela, tensions soon break out within the group when Pamely is seriously
attracted to Bishop, which drives Carswell - who's secretly in love with Pamela
- into desperation.
So desperate is Carswell in fact that he decides to throw in with Hans -
whose designs are to abuse the expedition for exploiting an incredibly rich
goldmine.
Soon Hans organizes a mutiny with the help of Carswell, & all the good
guys - Sir Harry, Van Doren & Bishop among them - are neatly tied up, while
Carswell takes Pamela with him ... but he hasn't accounted for the ruthlessness
of Hans who soon shoots him down, but gets his just desserts when White Pongo
finally abducts Pamela & strikes him dead in the process.
The others, led by Bishop who turns out to be an undercover secret
service agent on Hans' trail, soon catch up with Pongo & Pamela, only to
find the ape engaged in mortal combat with a normal, dark gorilla. Pongo wins,
but is weakened enough from the fight for our heroes to catch him. & of
course Bishop & Pamela finally become a couple !
All's well that ends well ...
One of these trashy but loveable & charmingly cheap jungle pictures, comprised
of cheap sets, carelessly immersed wildlife footage, a stupid storyline, &
Crash Corrigan again donning his white gorilla-suit.
You might either love or hate it !
