They've met on an online dating site, but Jen (Veronika Issa) and
Mike's (Jack Pearson) date quickly goes awesome when he tries to force
himself onto her, is very reluctant to accept no for an answer, and tries
to insist on them seeing each other again, even if it's obvious she's not
into him. Eventually she gets him out of her place, but conveniently he
has forgotten his watch in her bathroom, just to have a good excuse to
come back. But upon returning, they get into such a loud argument that a
neighbour (Jared Cohn) stops by to check on Jen. Mike leaves, but what Jen
doesn't know, Mike kills the neighbour when he leaves her place, as he
does with her best friend (Michelle Ng) and a chef (Nicholas Ryan) she
eventually dates. He even manages to get back on her good side long enough
for them to have consensual sex. But then enter Gerry (Michael DeVorzon),
Jen's ex who broke up with her because he went abroad for half a year, but
now he wants her back, and she's more than happy to let him back into her
life. And to get rid of him Mike quickly realizes takes more than just a
little ambush when nobody's looking - but he's up for the malicious game
... Scout Taylor-Compton plays Mike's ex - who doesn't survive breaking
up with him. A pretty nice little suspense piece that might be
low on spectacle but high on tension, thanks to a no-frills directorial
effort that gives the cast sufficient air to breathe, two leads that have
just the right chemistry with one another to pull off their respective
characters and their relationship, and a very well-sructured script that
keeps the suspense up throughout and places its shocks economically but to
full effect. Good genre entertainment for sure.
