Ever since the bloody suicide of her father before her very eyes, Mary
(Jessica Cameron) has been acting very weird, weird enough for her mother
(Maureen Pelamati) to send for medical help. But it seems with Mary
science has reached its limits, and a couple of exorcists (Jim Van Bebber,
Scott Gabbey) are called in - but fail miserably at their exorcism and are
torn apart by demonic forces. Fortunately, the Ordinary (Andy Winton)
himself has taken it upon himself to see to it that Mary is saved, and he
sends in the big guns, first a disillusioned priest who has seen too much
(Gene Palubicki), then a priest (David E. McMahon) who has actually lost
his soul in an exorcism. So theoretically, Mary should be in good hands.
Thing is, the Ordinary might have his own, ungodly motives for all the
services he renders ...
Song of Solomon is most certainly a movie that's not
easy to forget, it's a rollercoaster ride of sick (yet pretty convincing)
gore effects (including Jessica Cameron puking out all her intestines,
then eating them up again) and very disturbing imagery. All the same, the
film is more than just a gorefest, its story (however simplistic) has its
mythical undercurrents, and it's told with verve and an emphasis on
atmosphere, and it's carried by rock-solid performances - especially
Jessica Cameron stands out as "victim". Worth a watch for
sure, but nothing for the faint of heart!
