David (Darin Singleton) returns from his service in the army, and his
brother Chet (Arlo Gates), a Vietnam hero himself, gives him a hero's
welcome, even if David doesn't want to talk about it and gets very evasive
every time his services are mentioned - fact is, on the battlefield, he
proved to be a coward. This is much to the dismay of Chet, naturally, but
Chet doesn't have much going on for himself either. Despite having a wife
(Allison Orr) and three children, he has never made it past trailer park
status, has a shitty job and hardly ever enough money for food, and he
likes to spend his time at a local strip joint - and now he wants to
convince his brother to buy the place so he can run it and have some fun
on the side. But David's not interested, and he can't believe what has
become of his erstwhile hero ... Fan favourite Debra Lamb [Debra
Lamb interview - click here] plays a stripper Chet tries to
conspire with. Rather moving little film that doesn't even
pretend to have all the answers to all the questions raised in it but
rather works in a slice-of-life sort of way. Accordingly, direction and
camerawork are subtle, the black and white images are appropriately stark to
underline the film's tone but don't distract from the story, and the very
natural performances work well for the whole thing. Totally worth a watch! And
