Of late, wrestling has become ever more violent, and the Von Strasser
family's really at the frontline of this, be it through patriarch Hermann
(William DeCoff), who slits an opponent's throat with barb wire during a
match, or through Kitty (Sarah Michelle), who cuts off another girl's
nipple inside the ring, that other girl actually being Hermann's
girlfriend Lacey (Lizzie Havoc). None of this sits well with thier
promoter, so eventually they're suspended from duty, but that doesn't keep
the Von Strassers from going on an even wilder killing spree, with Harvey
(Alexander Hauck), mildest-mannered of the Von Strasser siblings, burying
the corpses by the swamp - because the Von Strassers want to raise a swamp
demon via some devillish ritual, and this demon can take over the world
once it has been fed enough souls. There's only one person to stop them,
Mary (Alexandra Cipolla), a woman with only a hazy memory of her past who
just cannot die, but can feel pain, and she crosses paths with the
Von Strassers time and again, and it's not always nice ... Genre fave
Melantha Blackthorne can be seen as a soothsayer. Now I have to
admit, this is a movie that takes a bit of time to really kick into gear,
narratively, as much time is spent chronicling the misdeeds of the Von
Strassers in and outside of the ring, scenes that might be full of action
and violence but get a bit redundant after a while. But once the actual
plot does kick in, one's really up for a wild ride with no-holds-barred
and an anything-goes attitude, a ride that will satisfy the heart of any
horror fan from the more savage side of the spectrum, as the film has an
irresistible grindhouse attitude to everything, doesn't shy away when
things get rough, and does its best to entertain in the process.
