At a time of civil unrest and during a riot, Trent (Martin Delaney),
member of an Amred Response team, is cut off from the rest of his squad -
and rather by accident happens upon a pocket of rioters that also contains
their leader Elijah (Ben Turner) ... and suddenly he's no longer the
hunter but the hunted. Trying to hide, Trent suddenly comes face to face
with one of the rioters, Amir (Josef Altin), who offers to help, but his
own prejudices make Trent distrust Amir from the get-go, and by refusing
is help he runs right into another group of rioters who beat him up and
tie him up. Ultimately Trent finds himself face to face with Elijah,
who questions him about a mole in his organisation - and suddenly he
notices what a fool he has been not accepting Amir's help. What's worse,
he could now (possibly) save himself ratting out Amir ... A
very skeletal action piece that refuses to waste any time with telling
backstories - it's never even clear what the rioters stand for and against
- but cuts to the chase ... and yet manages to hide a parable about trust,
prejudice, and just being human within all the action, which of course
makes the proceedings all the more powerful. Apart from that, the film
though features some really cool action that wins one over with its
natural rawness and relative realism, combined with a nail-biting
directorial approach. And all of this makes this a very cool genre piece -
that's surprisingly thoughtful for its brevity and almost wall-to-wall
action.
