There is a creature - more precisely Bigfoot - loose in the woods
surrounding a small town in the middle of nowhere, USA, and it seems to be
intent on killing everyone stupid enough to take a stroll through the
forest - and believe me, there are many who stroll. And while the local
sheriff (Reb Brown) still tries to figure out what's going on - after all,
the belief in Bigfoot is less widespread than the belief in Santa Claus -,
scientist Sarah Evans (Leilani Sarelle) enters the scene, and it doesn't
take her long to force the sheriff to work with her. On the other end of
the spectrum, there's a criminal Bigfoot hunter, Crawford (David
Campbell), who wants to kill Bigfoot as a trophy, and he doesn't shy away
from anything to get what he wants ... so he soon rounds up Charlie (Ted
Prior) and Cindy (Alissa Koenig), the last two survivors of a survival
group that had fallen prey to Bigfoot, and uses them as bait. And if you
now think you know where all this will lead to ... you're very probably
wrong! Click
here to open the Spoiler Pop-up! No matter which way you look at
it, Night Claws is not the most original movie, even the surprise
ending moving swiftly away from monster movie standards, is just a
collection of clichées borrowed from another genre. That said, in its
straightforwardness in both story and execution, Night Claws is
still fun at least, it's formulaic and simplistic genre entertainment for
sure, and it doesn't break any new ground ... but it moves along its story
swiftly enough, provides all the right shocks at all the right momentsand
delivers exactly what you expect a low budget monster movie to - in other
words, fine old school genre cinema. True, the film will very probably
never be regarded a classic of any sort - but at least it's sure to
entertain monster movie fans ...
