The same night though, the stallion breaks out of his stable to spend a few hours of you-know-what with Lady ... but somehow evil horsebreeder and casino owner Scoville (Jack Holt), who wanted to lay his hands on the stallion as well, accidently shoots him and puts the blame on Rogers.</p> <p>When Rogers realizes he is as good as convicted as a horsekiller and horsekillers are not very popular in this neck of the wood, he makes an escape with Lady. </p> <p>Later, Lady has a colt, Trigger, and Rogers raises Trigger with the love of a father. And once Trigger is the finest horse in the West ... Roy returns to Kendrick's ranch to give the horse to Kendrick as a gift. But Kendrick is a stubborn old mule, not only will he not take Trigger as a substitute for his dead stallion, he also has Rogers thrown into jail and Trigger auctioned off - and the horse goes to Scoville of course. Rogers is released from prison only thanks to Kendrick's daguhter Susan (Dale Evans), who has of course since fallen in love with him.</p> <p>Soon enough, Scoville asks Rogers to train Trigger for him, and Rogers happily agrees to this chance to remain with Trigger, not knowing that it was Scoville who tricked him in the first place.</p> <p>Actually, Scoville wants to race Kendrick's top horse in an upcoming race and that way win Kendrick's ranch in a wager, a wager Kendrick can't refuse to since he has vast gambling debts at Scoville's Casino.</p> <p>It's only minutes before the race that Rogers learns about the wager and about the fact that Scoville has tricked him, still he finds himself forced to ride Trigger for Scoville - but ultimately he finds an elegant way to lose the race when he finds two of Scovilles other riders blocking Susan (who rides Kendrick's best steed), and ultimately he crosses the finish line second because he was gentleman enough to help her out of a predicament ...</p> <p>And in the end, wouldn't you know it, Scoville is arrested while Trigger is returned to Rogers ... and it looks as if he and Ms Susan would soon tie the know with Kendrick's blessings ...</p> <p> </p> <p>A very cheesy Western with more than a few similarities to <b>Bambi</b> (a film Rogers himself even cites at one point), way too many animal sequences (considering this is supposed to be a Western) and way too few chases and shoot-outs (again, considering this is a Western).
