Underaged Marisa (Patrizia Castaldi) is killed, and the police seem to
give up investigations before they even started - but there's one man,
Paolo Germi (Claudio Canninelli), who actually tried to pick up the girl
shortly before she was murdered, who won't give up that easily, and
eventually he joins forces with handbag thief Giannino (Adolfo Caruso) to soon he
picks up a clue that leads him directly to a pimp who had his hands in a
kidnapping affair. Germi has to shoot the pimp in self defense, but he
takes the ransom money from the kidnapping - and hands it over to the
police, because you know, Germi is actually a sort of secret policeman who
was investigating the kidnapping.
He soon continues his investigations in the red light district and has
to find out that Marisa was quite possibly a whore, but she had some
information on whoever it was who was behind said kidnapping ... and
eventually, the trail leads to Marisa's own uncle, the banker Pesce (Massimo
Girotti), who had abused her since age 13 and has his hands in all sorts
of dirty dealings as on one hand they make him a lot of money, on the
other this money seemingly puts him above the law. He even tries to buy
off Germi - but Germi has his own set of morals ...
Very nice Italian crime thriller with giallo undercurrents that is not only competently crafted,
swiftly paced and intelligently written (complete with political subtext
and comedy bits),
it also features some highly original setpieces like a carchase through
the city in small and decidedly unglamorous used cars and a shootout on a
roller coaster. Apart from that the film is full of unexpected plottwists
and other surprises, colourful characters, suspense scenes and plenty of
action, which make it into a very entertaining mid-70's genre piece.
