They haven't seen each other in a while, not since Michael (Bryce
Draper) left town and broke Sophia's (Sara Fletcher) heart in the process,
but for this New Year's Eve, their friends have organized for a reunion at
a party in a cabin in the middle of nowhere - and the sparks fly again.
Their romance is only briefly interrupted by the arrival of Travis (John
Hennigan), a guy in search of his brother who has disappeared passing
through, and Sheriff Wyatt (Richard Grieco), who's supposed to evacuate
the city (but not very good at it). Oh, and then there's of course the
little trouble of a deranged family who lives in a shack nearby and who
have chosen New Years Eve for a massive killing spree, and it's only a
matter of time before they happen upon our group of youngsters ... William
Baldwin plays the college professor of the kids who might be more involved
with the whole ordeal than first suspected. Minutes to
Midnight might not exactly be the reinvention of the slasher genre,
for that it moves along familiar lines a bit too closely, but it is a very
tense little thriller, with all the suspense scenes and shocks in the
right places, enough gore to satisfy diehard fans, action that really
packs a punch, and at least the finale is bound to surprise one. So no, no
masterpiece, but bound to please every genre fan.
