Fed up with corporate life, Scott (Wolf Morrison) quits his job to
relaunch his music career - with some success. He soon falls in love with
Julie (Julia Prock-Schauer), and vice versa, and before you know it, she
has moved in with him. She seems to harbour a dark secret though, and
while he's away on tour, she kills herself. From an anonymous source,
Scott receives Julie's diary and a videotape, both of which suggest that
Julie's boss Frank (Seth Raven) was the reason for Julie's depressions
that led to her suicide. This pisses Scott off so much that he gets a gun
and shoots Frank dead. Thing is, not everything is what it seems in
Julie's world, and Scott might suffer from delusions as well ... An
interesting film for sure: Lost in Vienna, Austria starts out as a
very routine revenge thriller that seemingly doesn't miss a beat when it
comes to genre clichés - but the longer it goes on the more
(intentionally) confusing the story gets as the film first ditches its
linear narrative in favour of associative flashbacks and flash-forwards,
to eventually even questioning what's real, what's a dream, what's a
figment of Scott's imagination, and even vaguely suggests paranormal
occurences. The result is a rather fascinating genre puzzle that well
deserves a watch.
