Hard to say what this movie's really about: There's this story of a boy
who wanders off into the woods after being expelled from school for
farting, and then he finds an arsehole growing in the woods and feeds it.
There's these two women from different worlds (and maybe even different
dimensions, who are merged by their socks. There's a girl living with
transdimensional monsters who finds out she's been impregnated by someone
who has taken advantage of her when she was passed out drunk - and her way
to deal with this is slightly eccentric. Then there's this guy who's
afraid of boobs and is healed by a mad doctor (funk legend George Clinton
in a very far out role) by some very unorthodox methods. And there's also
that guy who discovers his girlfriend has a tiny head growing out of her
neck ... that really gives good head. And there are dozens of other
stories, too, some lasting less than a minute, some just little sketches,
some with a little more substance, but they might all be connected to an
earthquake ... Now Kuso, the first feature film by
musician Flying Lotus, is not a narrative film in the traditional sense of
the word - it plays with genre elements for sure, mostly from the horror
and science fiction world, but instead of telling its stories in a
stringent way, it seems to stray endlessly, interrupting stories at mid
point to start another plotline and pick them up much later or abandon
them, and everything's so over-the-top and (intentionally) laughable that
it's hard to decide whether this is experimental filmmaking or comedy. The
best way to describe this is probably Monty
Python's Flying Circus (yep, including animated interludes)
meets gross-out porn via road of David Lynch, with all actors having
terrible rashes or other grotesque growths in their faces. The result is
definitely not for those easily offended, as good taste has totally gone
out of the window in this one, but if you're ok with irreverent humour and
a barrage of grotesque gross-out scenes all in a very weird package all of
its own, then you'll very probably like this!
