It's supposed to be Gwendolyne's (Shoshana Henri) engagement party, but
then her fiancé Harry (Frederic Cassidy) is found in the arms of another
woman, Jane (Debra Lamb). Embarrassed, Harry flees the scene, and after a
few mishaps returns to his own home where he falls into a deep sleep - and
dreams that he's engaged in an eternal kiss (their lips are sewn together)
with Time - as in Gwendolyne - while Space - appearing as Jane - tries to
lure him away with a seductive dance (with cult scream queen and this
site's fave Debra Lamb doing another of ther trademark fire-eating
routines [for
more Debra Lamb on (re)Search my Trash, click here]) ... and ultmately, Harry cuts through his
ties to time ... In the real world in the meantime, Harry takes to
sleepwalking, climbs up to the rooftop and nears the edge totally
oblivious of the danger he's in ... Kissing Time is most
certainly a very unusual film: It's shot in the style of a silent movie -
so black and white, no dialogue or on-screen sound, over-acting of all of
the involved to bring the story across, title cards - and it certainly
seems to be set in the silent era judging from costumes and props ... but
instead of beind just a sentimental reworking of the techniques of old,
the plot is very fresh and original, and taking the cues of the movies of
old, it develops its own world stuck between the expressionist, the
bizarre, and the surreal ... and that works wonderfully well, making this
quite a unique experience, best compared to the works of Guy Maddin
probably, but without trying to copy that director's style at all. But
if that all sounds a little lofty, Kissing Time is also another thing:
Great entertainment! And if this has all gotten you interested,
