A bunch of New York City crime stories only loosely connected by their inner
city location:
- Two guys (Madwiz, Radamiz Rodriguez) want to rob a liquor store -
but neither is the loot what they'd expect it to be, nor is the
storeclerk (Skyler Gallun), as unarmed as they would have liked ...
- A guy (Sean Stolzen) wants to shoot his wife - but he's really not
good at getting a gun to do the job ...
- Two guys (Louis
Rocky Bacigalupo, Len Nash) are caught up between ripping off customers of a
burger joint and heavy partying so much they walk into their own
arrest eyes wide open ...
- Francisco (Giordan Diaz) and Kelly (Shepsi Haider) plan to rob their
weed dealer Steve (Connor Dylan) to have a lifelong supply of the
stuff - but not only has he beefed up security of late, he also has
acquired the power to flatly weird them out ...
- One night, Alan (Nathaniel Ansbach) and his little brother Archer
(Benji Siegel) drop into a coffee shop just for a pee - to run into a
couple of organ thieves (Ron Barba, Barbara Moonsammy) ...
Quite simply put, Inner City Rats is tons of fun, and it's
really its anthology format that keeps the film entertaining throughout,
as the tonal shifts from comedy to crime drama to horror (the organ
thief-segment) keep things from falling into a formula, and account for
the film's utter freshness, and that despite the fact that the film enjoys
to play with genre mainstays. And helped by a slick and stylish
directorial effort and strong performances, this turns out to be a movie
that's definitely worth a watch for sure.
