On his quest to find a cure for turning into the incredible Hulk (Lou
Ferrigno) while on the run from investigative journalist Jack McGee (Jack
Colvin), David Banner (Bill Bixby) has accepted a job as lowly cleaner at
a zoo - mainly because Dr. Baxter (Caroline McWilliams) works there who
does research in animal aggression control - roughly same field Banner did
that resulted in him becoming the Hulk and has built up on his researches.
Of course, before long Baxter and Banner become real close, too close for
zoo worker Carl (Richard Kelton), who had designs on the doctor himself.
Carl of course is not only a spurned lover, he's also a real bad boy
having conspired with the zoo's manager Malone (Dabbs Greer), who use the
zoo's animals for smuggling a fortune in diamonds - even if the animals
frequently die in the process. The two of them soon come to the conclusion
that Banner's a meddler who ought to be dealt with, so they lock him in a
cage with the gorilla (George Barrows) Dr. Baxter keeps in her office -
with the expected result that the Hulk soon smashes the place. Dr. Baxter
soon finds out about the crooked dealings Carl and Malone are having, so
the two try to get rid of her and (once again) Banner - and
ultimately, the Hulk saves the day again and the baddies are taken away in
handcuffs at the end, while Banner, despite having grown really fond of
Dr. Baxter privately and impressed by her research, has to leave before
his reputation catches up with him ... A fairly routine episode
of The Incredible Hulk, really, with all the series elements
firmly in place, this one will very possibly still amuse fans of vintage
B-horrors (circa the 1940s) due to the gorilla the leading lady keeps very
casually keeps in her office in an unlocked cage, just like the mad
scientists from yesteryear, and the by 1970s standards very outdated
gorilla costume George Barrows, veteran gorilla actor since the 1930s,
wears only augments that.
