After a somewhat botched up heist, Zenia (Lynn Lowry) leads her little
gang - Fish (Rachel Amanda Bryant), Hurt (Kevin Caliber), Candy (Jennifer
Michelle Stone II) and Steve (Steven Morris) - to some remote cabin deep
in the woods to lay low for a while. Thing is, this exact neck of the
woods is inrested with some bizarre wood zombies (in lack of a better
term) who seem to have nothing more (or less) in mind than to kill all
humans that cross their way. And since they can't be gunned down just like
that, our anti-heroes soon find themselves at a loss - until they're saved
by Henrietta's (Felissa Rose) extensive redneck family, who readily take
them in and even invite them to a special dinner. Thing is, there's
something very off with that family, somethins that might make them
even more dangerous thatn the wood zombies themselves ...
Genre favourites Sadie Katz and Felissa Rose appear in a
film-within-the-tilm zombie movie.
One just can't but love the concept of this movie, pretty much
a cross of zombie movie and folk horror, with fittingly bizarre monsters
and a bunch of anti-heroes as lead characters. What's more, this blend
works perfectly fine thanks to a script that moves along swiftly but still
gives its characters room to unfold, thanks to a competent cast, and
thanks to a genre-savvy direction. And the extended action-heavy showdown
between humans. half-humans and tree zombies alone is already worth the
admission alone. Very cool genre entertainment for sure.
