Little Gracie (Caige Coulter) is just about to fall asleep in her bed
when she hears awful noises and screams from downstairs, and after a bit
of hesitating, she musters up enough courage to grab a flashlight and go
have a look - to find a man (Courtney Gains) in the process of horribly
slaughtering her parents (Zoe Simpson Dean, Brad Goodman). Problem is,
with her flashlight, little Gracie has drawn the attention to herself, and
the killer isn't one to leave her alive. Gracie is quick to run and hide
in her bedroom, but she knows this is only a temporary solution, so she
turns to what's good to help her - the bible. But will a mere book be
enough to save her? Goodnight, Gracie is basically a fun
horror miniature, a short that doesn't try to re-invent the horror genre
but instead plays with its mainstays, and it offers a pretty cool (if
shocking) punchline to end its story. This works quite so well though
because the director really seems to know the genre and how to create
atmosphere and suspense, and when to go all gory, without ever overdoing
it. In all, great four minutes of genre fun!
