Once upon a time Mikey James (Mykel Shannon Jenkins) and Anthony Fasano
(Kevin Interdonato) were the closest of friends, so much so that Mikey was
married to Anthony's sister, and their crime families managed to share the
city peacefully. But then there was an incident that killed Mikey's
wife/Anthony's sister, and since, Mikey, his brothers Keith (Nicoye Banks,
Casey Ford Alexander) were forced into hiding. However, a debt with the
big bosses forces them out of hiding again, and veteran gangster Olympus
(Ernest Thomas) manages to broker a peace with Anthony and gang. However
the peace is fragile from the first, when Mikey and Anthony beat the crap
out of one another instead of shaking hands, and things get worse from
there, not only because there's still much unfinished business between the
two families, but also because they're outside players more than
interested to fan the fire. And since both Mikey and Anthony's visions are
blurred by what had gone down earlier, they know no other direction to
drive but to eventually crash into one another ... Now granted,
there are parts of this movie that are a bit hard to understand without
having seen The Gods first (and remembering plot details at that),
and especially without that prior knowledge this movie does feel a bit
long, clocking in at over two hours. But even when caught cold when it
comes to understanding the background story, this film has plenty to go
for it, not only is it rather elegantly directed and yet features plenty
of tension and violence to keep the audience at the edges of their seats,
it also features a very engaging story about trust, loyalty and betrayal,
that despite relying on many a gangster movie trope manages to keep things
and surprise the audience time and again. And very decent performances by
all those involved manage to make this a pretty cool gangster movie.
