Teens are vanishing from the local secondary school, and at first it
all seems like a muddled mystery - but inspector Witham (Neill Fleming)
soon picks up a clue that leads to young Isabel (Ellen Mullen), one of the
students at the school. Now Isabel hasn't had it easy since her mum has
disappeared: Her father (Gerry Herbert) he can but he basically isn't up
to looking after her and her kid brothers (Kevin Buckley, Killian
O'Farrell), so he lets the rare occasions she steps out of line just slip
as thanks for her help with everything. As a result though, he hasn't even
noticed though that Isabel has started to behave strangely of late, has
broken up with all her good friends from earlier, even her boyfriend (Adam
Tyrrell), and has been skipping school a lot. And the more Witham
investigates into Isabel, the hotter his trail is getting, until he thinks
he has got her red-handed. What Witham doesn't know though is that Isabel
has joined a cult of daywalking vampires that pick their victims from her
school, and her "trail" might just have been bait for him ... Teen
vampire movies are pretty much a dime a dozen, but this one finds plenty
of new in the topic, as in concentrating on the teenage angst aspect of
the sub-subgenre, not holding back when it comes to the gory side of
things, and turning the whole thing into a mystery, with all the suspense
as well as jump scares in all the right places, as well as freeing the
lore of all its romanticism for a change. And the result is a very
entertaining genre movie that's certainly worth its time.
