Death Rot is pretty much the leading death metal band of
its era ... but the bandmembers (Lena Howe, Jason Yapp, Jason Hegg, Tayn
C. Reis, Benny Blades) have in fact long abandoned the evil rocker
lifestyle, they all have families now, have left their drug-fueled pasts
behind, and couldn't be more boring in their tour bus ... until the bus
breaks down in the middle of nowhere, USA, and when they, with no
cellphone signal, spread out to go looking for help, they all bump into
macabre places, like a drive-in that has obviously been the scene of a
massacre, a car cemetary ... and the home of the Truman brothers,
consisting of TV preacher Hank (Snip Jackson), dim-witted Carl (David T.
Boe) and head of operations Earl (Kevin Kunkel), and they've actually set
up the trap for the band's tourbus and being the "good"
Christians that they are, they are not all to happy about the message they
thing the band is carrying, so they figure the band ought to be punished -
like ought to be killed and fileted and their flesh be sold off to their
"Christian" clients all over the world ... If you're
looking for too deep a message regarding death metal vs. Christianity in Death
Rot, you might be disappointed, it's really more of a genre movie with
the social commentary taking back seat behind the action and carnage - but
if you want to just be entertained by a backwood slasher with all the
suspense and the shocks in the right places, and can take in some funny
bits along the way, then you'll very probably like Death Rot, a
nicely written and executed shocker carried by a compact ensemble cast and
sprinkled with enough blood to keep one on the edge of one's seat.
