Maria (Ashley Bell) and Jules (Noureen DeWulf) have rented a nice cabin
in the woods for a romantic weekend - and while they're still settling in,
Maria suddenly notices they're locked in - and Jules is gone. At first she
believes Jules is playing a trick on her, but then she stumbles upon a
note saying "dear guest" and giving vague clues to her
whereabouts. Eventually, Maria solves the riddle, to find Jules tied up in
a car that's triggered to explode before long should Jules not be freed.
Just the car is locked, and there's no key ... A very nicely
conceived thriller short that manages to slim its narration down to the
bone and still come across as fresh, thanks to a well-structured plot with
plenty helpings of suspense and surprises, helped by a dynamic, no frills
directorial effort, and of course two solid leads, really breathing life
into their characters without overdoing it. Pretty awesome genre
entertainment for sure.
