Ronan (Michael McCarthy) is a cop who has long given up following the
letters of the law too precisely, ever since Logan (Wade Gallagher), his
army buddy from back when, has kidnapped Ronan's wife (Heidi Pitts) and
since made her the prime victim of torture, rape and degradation, all
captured on film and sent to Ronan's address, just to get him off the
rocker. But Ronan has made it his mission to smoke out Logan as well as
the organisation behind him, led by the especially psychopathic white
slaver Lukas Lodder (Harry Aspinwall) - and if that means torturing and
killing a few people in the process, so be it - and fortunately, Ronan's
partner on the force, Rex (Brad Potts), is good at covering up his tracks,
even if the chief of police (Joel D. Wynkoop) starts to suspect there's
something fishy. But Rex knows Ronan's heart is in the right place even if
his methods are questionable. But before long, Rex gets too deep into
things himself while Rex and one of the girl he saved turned avenger
(Jordan Elizabeth) finally go against Lodder himself ... Now
there's one thing that Crazed definitely is not, and that's subtle:
It's a loud film with plenty of action for the action's sake, there's a
busload of spectacle, ninjas for no particular reason, bits of nudity, a
simplistic plot with well-defined goodies and baddies and whatnot ... and
all of this works totally for the film, it's pretty much a comicbook come
to life, and it's as much fun as this pretty much suggests to be, a piece
of unapologetic genre cinema that pushes all the right buttons at all the
right moments, helped by a very dynamic direction and an ensemble cast
that's clearly in on the joke. Rather loveable, really!
