The relationship of Reeve (B.J. Minor), a young doctor, and his
boyfriend Owen (Brett Sturgis), a promisind district attorney, has hit a
little bit of a rough patch of late since due to their respective careers,
the two men have very little time for one another. So it's all the more
important that they go on a holiday trip to a cabin in the woods with
their best friends (Brentley Willis, Dre Matthews, Dueal Andrews, Jarick
White), despite or even because of the fact that Reeve learns that his
mentor Eric (Ernest Harden jr) has just been brutally murdered. At the
cabin, all the usual things happen, like lots of shots, lots of bitching,
but also lots of sex - and then one of the friends is injured by an
apparent madman (Gian Ibarra). Shortly thereafter Owen gets a call from
his office that the person who has killed Eric is probably going after
Eric's whole medical team from back when, a team that included Reeve - and
then Reeve is abducted ... Despite a rather elaborate set-up
with much character work, the third act of Bonded is basically
slasher movie 101 - but is pretty good at what it does, letting suspense
rule supreme while gifting the audience with macabre details. And that the
movie as a whole is well written, with relatable characters going through
relatable situations (apart from the finale of course), its fair share of
drama but also humour, with everything carried by a competent cast, makes
this a pretty cool genre piece.
