Francis (Camden Toy) and his daughter Anna (Melanie Robel) hold
seminars on eternal youth for the rich and depraved, seminars that include
eating human flesh, bathing in blood and the occasional flogging of
innocent girls (Kaylee Williams, Emerald Smith) for entertainment
purposes. One such rich and depraved person is Madison (Mindy Robinson),
a former model who had do end her career due to a scar across her chest,
administered by her serialkiller husband (Chris Losicco) and is now hoping
for a second career as a writer. Now she really enjoys the depravity going
on, and it inspires her, too - plus a few times hopping into virgin blood
really takes care of her scar ... but then she finds something a little
more likeable than a bathtube full of blood and human flesh as main
course, and that's a really old, really valuable coin - actually
from the 16th century, a time when Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory
(Debra Lamb), allegedly an ancestor of Francis and Anna, has ruled the
land. Madison just nicks the coin, but after her "treatment"
is done, and to her full satisfaction, too, she hooks up with fellow guest
Carter (Mark Hanson) for a heist on the place, as where there's one coin,
and lying around, too, there ought to be more ... right? And as a back-up
they bring in master burglar Gerry the Jaw (Robert Z'Dar), and all of them
posing as guests of the establishment and Madison and Carter already
familiar with the lay of the land, what could go wrong, right? Well, for
one that Francis and Anna are not exactly distant descendants of Countess
Bathory but her husband and daughter (hey, they deal in eternal youth, so
why not being eally old themselves?), and they need special blood to after
centuries revive the Countess herself - Madison's blood, actually ... Director
Joe Hollow plays Carter's best friend and underworld contact, genre fave
Linnea Quigley Hollow's incestuous wife. A Blood Story
sure as heck puts a new spin on the Bathory
myth: Sure, the main story still holds enough bloody and sexy bits to live
up to expectations, but the main story is actually much more of a heist
story with macabre elements, a story that's well structured, featuring
likeable but fallible characters, and it tells its on second thought very
straight story in many an interesting plot twist. Now add to this a subtle
directorial effort that stays away from too much spectacle without seeming
"tame" and a really capable ensemble cast, and you've got a
pretty cool, original movie!
