At Ruby Knowby's (Lucy Lawless) home, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and one of
Ruby's captives (Samantha Young) fight Ruby's toddler offspring (Ryder
Grant), whom Ash wants to capture alive - which naturally complicates
matters. Meanwhile in Ash's trailer, Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Ash's
new-found daughter Brandy (Arielle Carver-O'Neill) manage to fight
possessed Pablo (Ray Santiago) to a standstill, in the process knocking
him out and sending his mind to a netherworld where he meets the
(long-deceased) Brujo (Hemky Madera), who gives him sound advice on how to
defeat evil and even claims that Pablo can be a super-brujo ... Though
narratively no more than a transitory episode setting up things for later
rather than telling its own story, this is a further episode to bring the
series back to old strength, as it puts its focus on comedy, slapstick and
cartoon-violence again - especially the scenes with Ash fighting the
toddler are welcomely grotesque - and present Ash once more as a fallible
guy thrown into a situation a few numbers too big for him rather than a
traditional hero. Now as mentioned, not perfect on a narrative level, this
still holds lots of promise for future episodes.
