But what's even worse is the papers they'd need for a clean escape out of the country have gone missing as well. Instead, they find a tied up girl, Sydney (Evalena Marie) in the trunk of the car. Not knowing what to do with her, they decide to keep Syndey alive at least until they find out more of their own present situation, and seeing she's at least somehow linked to Greyhurst, she might be able to help. But things only get more out of hands when one day while Harry and Mick are out, the loot from their heist is stolen and they find Sydney rather violently tied up in the wardrobe. Then their car is stolen. Later, all three start hallucinating, only their hallucinations are exactly the same, which means there has to be something going on playing against them, and before long Harry and Mick suspect an inside job from either their employer or one of his underlings - but this is about where reality seriously starts to crumble.<p> <p>Now <b>Among Them</b> sure is an unusual movie: Starting out as rather regular if poignant gangster fare, it spins a story that gets more and more bizarre with every twist and turn, gradually steering into horror territory and more and more resembling a surreal jigsaw puzzle with very possibly no simple solution - and yet manages to not lose the audience in the process, rather make them root for all three protagonists, no matter how diverse their intentions and goals might be. And apart from pretty excellent writing of course, a down-to-earth directorial effort really helps keeping this together, as well as fresh and interesting.
