Morticia (Carolyn Jones) invites her childhood friend Lionel (Del
Moore) over to stay for a few days, much to the distress of her husband
Gomez (John Astin), who's almost instantly eaten up by jealousy but would
rather die to admit it - so much so that he asks both Uncle Fester (Jackie
Coogan) and butler Lurch (Ted Cassidy) to kill him. And Lionel certainly
has a way to charm Morticia - even if his motives are much ulterior, as
he's a cheat specializing on selling non-existent oil fields and uranium
mines. Not knowing that, Gomez hires a new maid (Pattee Chapman) to turn
Lionel's head, but at first she's totally unsuccessful - and what's more,
Morticia is led to belief Gomez has hired Mildred for his own sake and is
as heart-broken as he is. Luck turns for the better to almost everybody
though when Lionel learns Mildred has dabbled in the stock market, takes
her for a golden goose and marries her on the spot - only to learn that
all her stocks are completely worthless, and now he has to work his ass
off to pay her debts. But Gomez and Morticia's relationship is saved once
again, Now granted, not all punchlines in this episode really
hit their mark, but that said, the acting of both the regulars and the
guests is totally on point, making more than up for the occasional
missfired jokes and the very clichéed story, and ultimately this is a
hoot to watch and certainly among the best episodes of the series.
