Vincent (Rom Barkhordar) heads a research team on the verge of
developing a stable artificial intelligence system - but then the system's
infected by a virus, and the data is corrupted, and while the team's still
trying to figure out what's happening, Julie (Emily Berman), one of the
lead developers, announces her retirement from the project - much to the
dismay of Abi (Clara Cooney), a newbie on the team, who subsequently wants
to kill Julie, calling her corrupted, as if she was merely an application
inside the system. So could it be that Abi has been possessed by the
artificial intelligence they have developed? Or is something even more
sinister at play here? A very nice piece of cyber-horror, and
one that manages to express the concerns of the over-digitalized age
through physical action, making the underlying conflict palpable rather
than smothering it in endless arguments. And a directorial effort that
brings this across via atmospheric filmmaking with an emphasis on
atmosphere and suspense, and grounded performances by all involved of
course all also help in making this a very entertaining yet thoughtful
piece of genre cinema. And if this has at all gotten you
interested, Abi can be seen at https://youtu.be/Yaua0KWVo1w
