Keiichi Ohba is a small-frye yakuza, and a rather timid one too, so
when his boss Miyamoto orders him to take out a rival yakuza boss, he is
understandably shocked, and tries his best to make a getaway with his deaf
girlfriend Kaori, the only one who really understands him and who's even
expecting his child ... but sometimes, one's best is simply not good
enough ...
Eventually, Ohba finds himself slaughtering the rival yakuza boss, only
to be gunned down by a handful of his gunmen immdiately afterwards - in
something that smells like betrayal ...
Ultimately, Ohba is secretly buried by his brother, fellow
yakuza Atsushi, who's secretly in love with Kaori and would do anything to
get his hands on her - including secretly burying his former best friend.
However, what he doesn't know is that he buries Ohba in cursed soil, and
it doesn't take Ohba long to come back to life again ... and with a
vengeance too, because death has turned the formerly timid gangster into a
killing machine, and an invincible one, too. So Ohba starts killing
yakuzas rather indiscriminatingly and this way starts a big gang war -
something nobody inside the yakuza has been needing. The only one who
shows sympathy towards him is retired yakuza boss Mishima, who has also
taken it upon himself to take care of Kaori and who even begs Miyamoto to
let Ohba go (thinking he's still in the clan's employ), but ultimately,
Mishima is killed by Atsushi, who would do anything to get his hands on
Kaori, and since Miyamoto has told him this is what he needs to do ...
In a duel with Ohba, Atsushi is finally killed, and now it seems Ohba
has taken out everyone, everyone except Kanabata, the yakuza boss who has
actually set him up in the first place - but before Ohba can fulfill his
vengeance, he meets Kaori one last time, and she tries to persuade him to
make a getaway with her ... but to no avail, Ohba has his final, explosive
revenge on Kanabata, after which he just falls to pieces, having fulfilled
his destiny ...
A zombie yakuza (even if not one of the flesh-eating kind) sounds like
a great idea no less, but the film that's based on that idea is decidedly
less than great, it's pretty much an uninspired blend of films like Versus
(the basic set-up) and Full Metal Yakuza (most of the story line), with
very little to distinguish this film from the myriads of other modern
(made-for-video) gangster and/or horror flicks. And somehow, the director
totally fails to exploit the absurdity of the film's concept. Rather a
pity !!!
