Back in the early 1990s, when the TV show Twin Peaks made
Washington State hip for a couple of years, filmmaker Kelly Hughes had a
program called Heart Attack Theatre on public access TV that
eventually led him to direct a few feature films, including the Twin
Peaks-parody Twin Cheeks: Who Killed the Homecoming King? In
2015, Hughes did a photoshoot to highlight designer Noel Austin's fashion
line D.N.A. that was inspired by Twin Peaks and especially
the by now iconic photo of a dead Laura Palmer, featuring two of Hughes'
collaborators from Heart Attack Theatre and Twin Cheeks,
Betty Marshall and Ernest Rhoads ... Basically, Wrapped in
D.N.A. can be seen as a sort of sequel to Hughes' Heart Attack! The
Early Pulse Pounding Cinema of Kelly Hughes, a little bit of a
"Whatever happened to such-and-such" - but in the most
unpretentious way. Basically, this little documentary has a welcome punk
rock attitude to it, is based on weird anecdotes and fun stories, and
shows a filmmaker and actors from back in the day who it seems have just
refused to ever get old - and that's quite simply a wonderful thing!!!
