Jack's (Timothy J. Cox) basement looks like the place of a hoarder -
but there's rhyme and reason for his collection of weird stuff, he's
building a trap that combines simple mechanics with electronic gadgets, a
trap tht's radio controlled and camera surveiled, so if he puts it up in
the woods, he can handle it perfectly from his own home. But if something
out there needs such a sophisticated trap to be caught, what threat will
it be should the capture fail? What Jack Built is first
and foremost an exercise in creating suspense. The plot is rather skeletal
and not even accompanied by dialogue, the wonderfully retro props are also
very functional regarding the narrative, and the films sole character,
played with verve by Timothy J. Cox as a driven man, is functionally flat
- and all this works for the movie, keeps the audience guessing and the
tension mounting. And an elegant directorial effort sees to it that the
story's carried home in style. Quite good, actually!
