Restoring Emma's (Claudia Gerini) painting that has been almost
completely destroyed by fire certainly isn't the easiest job in the world,
but Lisa's (Lauren LaVera) a professional who has been trained by the best
in the business - her father (Giovanni Lombardo Radice) no less -, so
she's more than up to the job ... even if the painting's motive's more
than a little bit disturbing, even if Emma's own daughter (Linda
Zampaglione) warns her to make an escape while she still can, and even if
her travellint companions (Gianluigi Galvani, Taylor Zaudtkel, Courage
Oviawe) have all mysteriously disappeared. But hey, it's just a painting
after all, so what could go wrong there, right? Now I won't lie
to you, on a purely narrative level The Well is less than perfect,
it sure has its fair share of plotholes and inplausitilities - but that
said, like so many Italian horror movies throughout the years, it also
works perfectly as a cinematic nightmare once disbelief's suspended, as
the film scores highly on sheer creepiness, contains its fair share of
shocks, and properly manages to disorient its audience with quite
unsettling results. So maybe not the greatest of movies, but a really cool
piece of horror.
