Leah (Nosheen Phoenix) and Nick (Baker Chase Powell) watch a horror
movie together - some stupid slasher, and Nick can't help but show his
lack of interest, as he ... just doesn't like horror movie, and would have
chosen a Seth Rogen comedy over this any day. Basically he thinks all the
scares are predictable, and the story is formulaic ... until things get
spooky in the apartment, and Nick and Leah find themselves on the run from
masked villains who might be of supernatural origin, and who eventually
snatch Leah when ... Nick wakes up, and it was all but a dream. Or indeed
was it? So ok, Vexed starts out as a meta, post-modern
horror piece, and one comes to fear for the worst ... but it soon resolves
into a really well-made shocker, with really scary scenes to boot, plenty
of tension, suspense and jump scares all perfectly placed, within a
narrative frame that is seemingly formulaic and highly inventive all
at the same time, leaving one really well entertained.
