Believing they're in to shag hot twins Susan (Tiffani Fest) and
Samantha (Emily Dahm), best friends Jody (Hunter Johnson) and Cliff
(Charles Chudabala) make a trip to a campground in the woods for Christmas
for an ugly sweater party - yet Cliff has forgotten to bring his
sweater, so they take one off a vagabond (Brad Potts), not knowing that
the vagabond is actually a former police detective, and the sweater once
belonged to a particularly evil serialkiller (Sean Whalen) ... and the
soul of that man apparently still lives in the sweater, so when he puts on
the sweater, Cliff starts to change, at first gradually ...
Once in the camp our heroes are in for a shock, the camp's actually a
bible camp, and the twins have sworn to chastity - and while Cliff sneaks
away under a pretense, Jody has to take in the whole horror of it: There's
the weird closet gay camp leader Mandix (Marv Blauvelt), his horny wife
(Felissa Rose), asshole priest Father Bottoms (Matt Holbrook), goth girl
Hanna (Lara Jean) desparately trying to attract Jody's attention, all
kinds of weirdos on a Jesus trip, and lots of mambo dancing - and then
Cliff attacks Jody out of nowhere and almost kills him, and when he fails
there's a shift in time and nobody remembers anything about that last
incident, nobody but Jody and Hanna, who turns out to be psychic and the
only one who knows what they're up against: Apparently the ugly sweater
wants to take over all of Cliff so the serialkiller can come to life
again, but Cliff needs to kill a certain number of people. Now Jody and
Hanna need to either kill Cliff or at least get his sweater off him - and
the latter is much harder than it sounds as the sweater starts to merge
with Cliff. Jody and Hanna's mission is further complicated when a former
employee of the camp (Jody Barton) shows up with a laser gun ready to kill
everyone in sight. So the bodies are falling left and right, and time's
running out for Jody and Hanna ...
Now admittedly, the humour of Ugly Sweater Party is a bit
uneven, and sometimes it tries to go too far over the top and relies on
grossing out the audience a bit too much - but that said, the film's also
a lot more entertaining than it ought to be, as the pace is swift enough
to really drag one along, there are plenty of "what the
fuck?"-moments in the movie to keep one interested, and while
sometimes the thing's too over-the-top, it also never shies away from
things. In all, it's just a really fun ride.
