Basically, Jon (Bill McLaughlin) seems like an alright guy. Sure, he's
a bit of a slacker when it comes to work, he has no real friends but one,
Donny (Vinny Ward), and even him he treats like dirt some times, but he's
also very courteous, has a way to chat up ladies, and seems to be a rather
decent guy. Especially Jennifer (Lyndsey Brown), a girl whom he has helped
to move into her new apartment and who hasn't dated anyone in years, has
fallen for his charms. Thing is, Jon isn't very good in accepting refusal,
and Jon hears a voice in his head - and that voice tells him to kill all
women who have turned him down ... oh, and also all women who haven't
turned him down ... oh, and all hookers ... oh, and the naked girls he
keeps chained up in his basement. Well, suffice to say, before long, he
has quite a few bodies to take care of, so he has made it his habit to
dump them along the New Jersey Turnpike, hence he's dubbed the Turnpike
Killer before long. For the longest time, Jennifer is safe from
Jon's attacks, but when she one day sees him outside her place watching
her window, and turning and leaving when he realizes she has seen him, she
gets a bit weirded out, so much so that she talks to Donny, who just
happens to be her landlord, about it. Jon though regards Jennifer as his Chosen
One, whatever that means - but since the voice in his head uses the
expression a bit too often, it's probably nothing too nice ... Two New
York cops (Edgar Moye, Aris Sarandakos) have traced the Turnpike Killer
back to New York and are slowly closing in on Jon - but it's already too
late for Donny, whom Jon has killed when he confronted him with what
Jennifer has told him. And Jennifer? She has become the latest tenant of
Jon's basement, next to a naked corpse ... Click
here to open the Spoiler Pop-up! The Turnpike Killer is one of those films that,
without feeling out-of-date or retro, is strongly reminiscent of violent
grindhouse shockers from a long bybone era (and films like Maniac
readily spring to mind). That's not to say The Turnpike Killer is
or tries to be a hommage or lifeless copy of these films of old, rather
it's a violent thriller that is unrelenting in its presentation of gore
peppered with a deliberate dose of nudity and that doesn't try to be
too-smart-for-its-own-good but goes straight for the jugular - and despite
that, the film manages to remain fairly intelligent and even sport a great
surprise ending. Recommended, actually - but you have to have the
stomach for it! By the way, this film is available here: http://www.turnpikekiller.com
