Sonya (Arianna Danae) has long grown sick of taking care of her Uncle
Max (Bill Taylor), who apparently is proud to be a pain in the butt, who
bullies her whenever he can, and who won't stop criticizing her where he
ought to be thankful. So eventually, Sonya and her shady lover Joe
(Nathaniel Sylva) decide to kill Uncle Max. At first it really seems as
easy as it sounds, Sonya mixes some poison into Max's snack, he eats it,
passes out, and ... party - but suddenly Uncle Max's body is gone, and he
re-appears, very much alive, emerging from the toilet as the poison has
passed through his digestive system way too quickly to cause any lasting
harm. So Sonya and Joe try again and again, but nothing seems to stick -
until Sonya has a new idea - that might not have a happy ending for
everyone involved ... In concept, The Trouble with Uncle Max
is basically a good old-fashioned short story that builds up its plot to
its surprise twist ending and carries lots of narrative irony along, and
extra points are given for the dark humour that's a constant undercurrent
to the dramatic on-screen goings-on. Now add to this a suitably subtle
direction that gives the story the room it needs to breathe, and a solid
cast, and you've got yourself a really nice little short. And
