Julian (John Paul Tremblay) and Ricky (Robb Wells) have spent the last
16 months in jail, now they want to move back into their old trailer park.
Ricky soon learns it's not that easy, mainly because his wife Lucy (Lucy
Decoutere) refuses to let him move in again with her and their daughter
(Jeanna Harrison) and has since rented his room out to Sarah (Sarah
Dunsworth), who does her best to keep Lucy and Ricky apart for her own
sake. Ricky can't move in with his dad either, because dad's a heavy
drinker, and when he drinks he gets violent. And finally, Julian doesn't
want to have anything to do with him anymore because Julian wants to go
straight ... But going straight isn't as easy as it sounds for Julian
either, because Cyrus (Bernard Robichaud), a crook with a gun who tries
his best to look like the Fonz from Happy Days has taken
over not only his trailer but control over the whole trailer park while
Julian has spent his time in jail. Now Julian knows he can kick Cyrus's
butt, but he's on probation, so any asskicking is not an option unless he
wants to land back in jail (which he doesn't). So he challenges Cyrus to a
public showdown and makes sure that the whole neighbourhood, including the
park supervisors (John Dunsworth, Patrick Roach) come and watch. When
Cyrus comes, gun in hand, Julian just coolly throws all of Cyrus's stuff
out the window of his trailer, and challenges Cyrus to shoot him in front
of dozens of witnesses. Of course, Cyrus doesn't dare, and eventually, he
leaves the trailer park for good, humiliated. And for a proper happy
ending, Julian even lets Ricky sleep in his car for a few days ... This
pilot episode of Trailer Park Boys shows promise, but at the
same time it suffers from the weakness many pilots - especially in the
half hour format - suffer from: It tries to set up too much all at once
and thus spends too little time telling its actual story or letting its
humour come into full bloom. But still, promising at least ...
