Lauren (Suzi Lorraine) has only recently been discharged from a
psychiatric hospital, and her husband Ray (Tom Stedham) Decides it's a
good idea to take her to a nice cottage in the country for relaxation. But
Lauren is far from well, even on their way to the cottage she insists on
seeing a man inside a garbage bag that then turns out to be just full of
garbage. Later at the cottage, she insists that a clown (Lucien Eisenach)
is prowling the premises, something Ray flat out attributes to her
imagination, which makes Lauren all the more stubborn in her claims. But
as a consequence, Ray doesn't even believe Lauren when she tells him the
local Sheriff (Ted Alderman) has stopped by on the lookout for two Mormon
missionaries (Jade Michael LaFont, Luc Bernier) who have disappeared in
the area. And eventually, Ray manages to persuade Lauren that she might be
seeing things after all, as she has been discharged from hospital
prematurely, as her insurance wouldn't pay for her stay anymore. Problem
is, the clown is real, and he has actually brutally tortured and murdered
the two missionaries. But what's worse, he has already found a way into
the cottage ... Though obviously made on a moderate budget,
this is a film that really sucks you in thanks to a carefully structured
script that might take its time to build up the tension but never misses a
beat, coupled with a directorial effort that makes the most out of
whatever's at hand and that puts an extra emphasis on suspense - though
not exactly looking away during the gory parts of the film -, plus Suzi
Lorraine gives a really strong and relatable central performance. Nice
genre entertainment for sure.
