Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, USA: Gas station atendant Clint
(Charles Pitts) and his wife SuperAngel (Shari Eubank) have a fight that
is only ended when cop Harry Sledge (Charles Napier) knocks him out. Later
SuperAngel throws Clint out of the house, and while he tries to drown his
sorrow in alcohol, SuperAngel gets into bed with Harry ... only Harry
can't get it up like a regular bloke, but gets turned on by sheer violence
- which is something of a turn-off for SuperAngel ... and soon enough, he
has killed her and burns down her house, but not enough at that, he makes
it look as if Clint did it.
To escape arrest, Clint hits the road, but no matter where he goes, he
seems to get into trouble, womantrouble:
- There's this couple (John Lazar, Sharon Kelly) who agrees to take
Clint with them, but when Clint refuses (!) to get physical with her, the
male part of the couple beats hikm up and robs his money.
- Then there's well-meaning farmer Luther (Stu Lancaster), who gives
him food to eat, a roof over the head and even some money to start anew -
problem is his wife SuperSoul (Uschi Digard) desperately wants to have sex
with him and at one point forces herself onto him in the nude. When Luther
catches them, he misinterprets the situation - and can you blame him - and
chases Clint away.
- And then there's SuperEula (Deborah McGuire), who drives out into the
desert with him and tries to seduce him, much to the dismay of her dad
(Russ Meyer). It all ends in a car chase in fancy racing cars.
... finally, Clint finds clumsy gas-station owner Supervixen (Shari
Eubank again), who has a gas station in the middle of nowhere, and who is
in desperate need for help, and for a man ... and Clint fits both bills
perfectly.
So it seems everything has come to a happy ending for Clint after all
... until cop Harry stops by, posing as a tourist, and Clint just fails to
recognize him and makes friends with him. Eventually, Harry even invites
him to a fishing trip and Clint agrees ... but soon enough, Harry's
violent personality shines through when he kidnaps SuperVixen and ties her
up spreadeagled inthe middle of the desert, then tries to take Clint out
using dynamite he has nicked from an army blasting area. Ultimately he
gets hold of Clint too and ties them both up together to blow them up like
the romantic couple they are ... only the dynamite misfires while another
piece of dynamite goes off when it's not supposed to and right next to
Harry, which blows him to Kingdom Come ...
By and large, Russ Meyer's films from the 1970's are not quite as good
as those from the 1960's, in parts because his self-referential humour
doesn't always work, in parts because his formula - a hard-boiled story
set in the rural nowhereland, USA featuring big tits and violence - has
grown a tad thin, and in parts because by now the sex-market Meyer in the
1960's had pretty much to himself was oversaturated. Supervixens
though is one of his better films from the 1970's as it keeps the humour
down and goes for a comprehensible story instead. The only thing about
this film is that it is too long and the story is not stringent enough,
rather seems to fall into its little episodes, which robs the (literally)
explosive finale of much of its impact. Stil, the film definitely has its
moments.
