Evil organisation Seiroukai send a new killer into town to get rid of
Saki (Yoko Minamino), and this killer is basically a totally brain-washed
guy whose weapon of choice is a needle - a needle that can kill but also
has hypnotic powers. And for simplicity's sake that killer is called
Hayato 2. But when Hayato 2 arrives in town he can't find Saki as she has
gone on a short trip to her hometown, so to pass the time Hayato 2 decides
to kill Saki's friend, the marble-throwing Okyo (Haruko Sagara). In their
first confrontation, Okkyo can ward off Hayato 2, but is rather perplexed
how well he handles her marble attacks and how good he's at
marble-throwing himself. Actually he reminds her more than a bit of her
childhood best friend Takeshi, so much so that she's convinced that he's
him. At their next confrontation she tries to jog his memory, first
thropugh talk, then by luring him to their childhood playground, and while
the memories start to break through with Hayato 2, they do so only
sporadically and won't deter him from his mission. And then Okyo is down
to her very last marble, the one Takeshi gave her as a farewell present
all these years back, and she decides to use it not as an attack weapon
but a memory trigger - and it works pretty much the last second, as his
needle's already at her neck ... A rare solo-adventure for
Okyo, this episode is admittedly very much on the cheesy side, but it goes
to the episode's credits that it wraps most of its tearjerker moments in
an extended needle vs. marbles fight scene that's actually executed very
tensely and dynamically. Now maybe not the best episode of the series, but
a fun watch sure enough.
