Of late, Rowena (Allison Plourde), loving wife and mother of two, has
made it her habit to go out at night on her own and make up excuses where
she has been. Her husband Robert (Torsten Kellar) doesn't really seem to
notice as he's working many a night shift, but her sister Lauren (Kendra
North), who's usually babysitting for her, soon can't help but noticing
something is definitely not right. Now one might think Rowena has an
affair, and one couldn't even 100% blame her, seeing as her husband
neglects her in favour of his job ... but if it was only that, fact is,
Rowena roams the bars at night in a blond wig and slutty outfit, picks up
men who usually take her home being promised sex ... and then she brutally
stabs and castrates them before leaving without a trace. The whole killing
spree has the police totally baffled ... Robert and Lauren don't know
what to make of Rowena of late, especially when they question her about
her wherabouts last night and she claims she can't even remember. But at
first they don't suspect her to have anything at all to do with the
murders, because hey, she's their respective wife and sister. What they
don't know is that Rowena's suffering from a split personality, stemming
from her childhood when she was raped by her schizophrenic dad. Thing is,
years back, Robert and Lauren had been a couple before he had even met
Rowena, and now worrying over Rowena, they discover they still have
feelings for one another - which eventually lands them in bed together.
But eventually too, Rowena finds out - and it's hard to tell which of her
personas will take over ... First and foremost, Split
Personality is lots of fun: Sure, it might be a bit rough around the
edges, and clichéed and simplified in its story, but it's also a lovable
throwback to yesteryear's grindhouse thrillers that were as blunt as they
were effective and that could keep the audience's interest despite
far-fetched plot ideas and very thin logic - as is this movie that keeps
pushing from beginning to end and really seems to enjoy to spin its yarn,
in the process sucking the audience into it as well. In closing, I'll
just repeat myself here: Lots of fun!
