Having lost a few too many a job in the past 3 weeks, Daisy (Jessica Stevenson)
can't afford to be picky ... even if that means working in a kitchen - &
this kitchen resembles more an institution right out of One flew over
the Cuckoo's Nest (they even have an Indian chief [Tim Sampson]). When
Daisy wants to start a rebellion against her bitchy boss Tina (Joanna Scanlan)
though, feeling herself superior as a writer, she has to find out all of her
colleagues are down-on-their-luck writers as well ... & about to be broken
in the kitchen ... Daisy's flatmate Tim (Simon Pegg) & his best friend
Mike (Nick Frost) meanwhile prepare their battle-bot for the grand finale of
Robo Wars, but their direct competitors Dexter (Reece
Shearsmith) & Cromwell (Jonathan Nyland) sabotage their robot out of
jealousy, so Tim & Mike spend all their spare time (& even their
working hours) rebuilding the thing & battle Dexter & Cromwell's battle-bot in a secret gathering called the Robot Club (think Fight Club here,
only with battle-bots) ... & of course in the end they win - thanks to some
newly installed missile launchers. & Tim & Daisy's next-door
neighbour Brian (Mark Heap) is hired to do an installation at an art gallery
the next day ... which in the end turns out to be a great success - but only
because Brian had an accident while building the thing & has been lying
amuidst the installation during the whole show. Not without its
funny bits, but the insistance to stuff 3 totally unrelated subplots into one
half-hour episode seems to be a questionable idea at best, since the three
stories, for some reason told in intertwining fragments, seem to prevent each
other from coming into full swing,.
