Comicbook artist Tim (Simon Pegg) finally seems to get his break when Damien
Knox (Clive Russell) of Dark Star Comics offers to look at his portfolio &
employment if he likes his stuff. But Tim's flatmate Daisy (Jessica Stevenson)
accidently puts one of Tim's very mean caricatures of Damien Knox into the
portfolio ... which she doesn't tell Tim until his friend, the drugged
bicycle messenger Tires (Michael Smiley), has already delivered it to Dark
Star, & now Tim, Mike & Tires have to come up with a very stupid plan
to get the portfolio back, which includes Tires diverting the attention of Dark
Star's security guard (Mike Hayley) while tim enters Damien's office via the
ventilation shaft. He gets his hand onto the portfolio, but then is caught by
Damien's assistant Sophie (Lucy Akhurst) ... who has taken the liberty of
removing the caricature of Damien herself & asks Tim for a date ... Once
more the world is saved. Thsi episode could have been great would it
have stuck to just this story, with Michael Smiley as the drugged cylist who is
constantly put into a trance by rhythmic noises being a worthy addition,
however the insistance to tell not one but 3 stories per episode does reduce
the effect of the episode rather than add to it (the other stories are Daisy
becoming really competitive when jogging with Marsha [Julia Deakin], &
artist Brian [Mark Heap] pretending to be a lawyer for his mother's [Rowena
Cooper] sake, only to find out she always wanted to have an artist as her son).
Despite all this criticism, it's still pretty funny though. In a take on the
running gag of the 1st-season-finale of Buffy
the Vampire Slayer (Prophecy
Girl) almost everybody in this story adresses Mike at one point or
another, mentioning "I like your outfit !" Mike by the way wears an
improbable 80's aerobic outfit including headband & legwarmers.
