Earth's runaway moon is threatened by a meteor on direct collision
course, so moonbase Alpha's commander Koenig (Martin Landau) decides to
place a few explosives on the thing & blast it out of space. & the
plan actually works, too, only Alpha's crack pilot Alan (Nick Tate) gets
lost in space when placing one of the explosives, & the alphan's can't
really look for him since a nuclear mist does not only block vision but
also scrambles all radio & radar signals. Everybody thinks Alan is
dead, actually, everybody but Koenig, who decides to go up there himself.
& wouldn't you know it, Koenig relly finds alan up there, alive
(saved by some mysterious alien creature, but Koenig doesn't know that
yet). But Koenig finds something else, an entire planet, directly on
collision course with the moon !!!
Back on Alpha, the Alphans prepare a few more nukes to blast the planet
out of space too (by god, how many nukes have tghey got ?), but before
they can put this plan into action, Koenig goes up there again, but up
there, his spaceship is swallowed by a much bigger spaceship, & he
meets an alien called Arra (Margaret Leighton), who has previously saved
Alan, & somehow she convinces him that the moon & the planet will
not clash (despite being & remaining on collision course) & he
must not blow the planet up. Koenig is positively fascinated by Arra
...
Back on the moonbase though, nobody really believes Koenig's fantastic
story, & fearing for their lives, the Alphans sedate Koenig &
continue preparing the nukes ...
It's only shortly before the bombs are activated that Koenig & Alan
prevent the others from blowing the planet up at gunpoint. & really,
just before the planet & the moon collide, the planet disappears ...
As usual, there's some great miniature work in this episode, paired
with a few psychedelic effects, but somehow the episode is just overly
talky, the action is reduced to a simple brawl inthe end, & the
esoteric climax can only be called disappointing.
