Detectives Erica (Charles Drance) and Vince (Jonathan Troyer) investigate
the double murder of Dylan (Eric Stary) and Tyra Dowman (Jocelyn Jae
Tanis) in what's supposed to be a quiet neighbourhood, and it's anything
but an open and shut case as the two were popular in their community and
didn't have any enemies. With very little to go on, the detectives
question the couple's 18 year old son Eli (Joey Bolt) who's known to have
a problematic relationship with his father, but loved his mother. Of
course, with little competition, he soon becomes the prime suspect,
especially after two more people of his circle of friends, girlfriend
Julie (Addy Hankins) and best friend Tim (Timmion Lichtenberg) are killed,
quite obviously be the same killer. Enough reason for our detectives to
move in on Eli ... and then he turns up dead, and one of the few remaining
suspects is Erica's own daughter Sophia (Tamara Villaton), Julie's best
friend but Eli's arch-enemy, whom Erica defends the best she can - but
Vince has already started investigating behind her back, and hasn't found
any evidence that would vindicate her, quite the contrary ... Part
slasher, part murder mystery, part police procedural, this one's above all
else just a really tense thriller, one that keeps the audience guessing
while also featuring all the suspense and jump scares to expect from a
film like this in all the right places while also telling a relatable
story with fell fleshed-out characters with actual arcs and motivations.
And thatnks to a very competent cast and a suitably subtle directorial
effort, this has turned out to be a very worthwhile genre entry.
