A quartet of friends (Adam Bash, Paul Ogletree, Lukas John, Tristan Green)
go on a kayaking trip deep deep into backwoods country, USA, and of course
they ignore the warnings of a local shopkeeper (Scot Scurlock) of the
giant snake that runs wild in the woods - and the beginning of our heroes'
trip couldn't be more relaxing really - that is until they run into a
capsized kayak, and when they investigate they run into the above
mentioned giant snake who soon enough has killed two of them. And while
the rather over-cautious and somewhat timid Bill (Adam Bash) scurries off
to get help, macho man Patrick (Paul Ogletree) stays behind to fend for
himself - and falls captive to above shopkeeper and his two sons (Jared
Hasmuk, Oscar Rockwell), who have adopted the snake as their pet and see
to it that she's always well fed - and her favourite food is human flesh.
Patrick's only hopes to survive this now lay with Bill - but Bill will
have to do some serious manning up to keep Patrick's hope alive ...
Basically, Snake Creek is a throwback creature feature
done right: Without in the least just apeing the films of yesteryear, the
film really gets the look and feel of genre fare from circa the 1970s
right, without relying on post-modernist irony or nostalgia bait but just
trying to tell a solid (if rather simply and straight-forward) story
populated by flawed but relatable characters. And the result of this,
coupled with solid performances by all the involved, is then a good piece
of in the best sense of the world old-fashioned genre entertainment.
