Dale (Danilo Di Julio) has "invited" his employees for a
weekend in a cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere - and there's the
office slut Lira (Devon Ogden) and her current beau Joel (Landon
Ashworth), office clown Tedi (Eli Bildner), Jesus nut Rita (Trista
Robinson), and of course, the down to earth couple Zacry (Donny Boaz) and
Meigan (Rebecca Summers), who are not really a couple actually, even if
they seem to be drawn to one another. Somehow this seems to be a recipe
for disaster from the get-go ... and these expectations are not
disappointed - and that's even before Rita suddenly disappears, and all
the search parties Joel sends out to track her down come back empty
handed. But while the others are out, Meigan makes a visit to the attic
and finds a tape recorder that shows the cabin's very dark past: It was
once a mental institution, but one that had a very bad reputation, and
deservedly so. Meigan also finds out that one of the institution's
orderlies (Circus-Szalewski) is now the caretaker of the premises ... and
then Meigan's colleagues start to turn up dead, and she doesn't know who
to trust anymore to at least make it out of the place in one piece ... Silent
Retreat is a bit of everything, nihilistic thriller, slasher, genre
comedy ... and somehow, for once that actually works just fine, as shock,
suspense and also jokes are well set to not stand in the way of one
another, the story as such offers quite a few surprises for a genre movie,
the characters are well-drawn and like- or hate-able, depending on the
role (same goes for actors), and the whole thing moves at a swift but not
overly hurried pace to keep one glued to one's seat throughout. Totally
worth your while! Find out more about the movie here:
