At the request of Watson's (Howard Marion Crawford) friend Reggie
(Barry MacKay), Sherlock Holmes (Ronald Howard) examines the man's ancient
Egyptian mummy, which is supposed to be laughing - but Holmes has soon
figured out that the laughing noises come from a weather fane on the roof
... case solved - but wait, there's something much more sinister going on
underneath, becausethe mummy is actually not from ancient Egypt at all but
a relatively fresh stiff, whom Holmes soon links to the local egyptologist
(Paul Bonifas), who confesses the mummy really was his colleague whom he
mummified after his death to avert suspicion - and yet he doesn't know if
he has murdered him, though he admits they were fighitng. Holmes examines
the mummy's sarcophagus some more and detects a poisoned needle that must
have taken out the deceased - which of couse relieves the Egyptologist of
any guilt ... Some of this episode is really funny, and Barry
MacKay's performance certainly adds some colour to the proceedings, but
the mystery, or actually the two mysteries, give away their solutions way
too fast to really add suspense to the proceedings. Still, one of the
better episodes of the series.
