Louis (Neil Redfield) is a handsoe model with charm to boost, and he
goes to all the right clubs to pick up men - to kill them, as ever since
being treated with electro shocks by an evil doctor (Geoff White) he has
become an especially mean serial killer, taking out whoever's in his way,
from fortune tellers (Sissy O'Hara) to politicians (Ronald Martin),
nothing's safe from his urge to kill. Two cynical cops (John Joseph Gomes,
Brandon Grimes) are already on Louis' trail, but will they be able to
catch up with him before it's much too late for way too many people? Now
The Serpent Writhes in a Glass Coffin is not a narrative film in
the classical sense of the word but a mock trailer for a film that will
never be made - and as such it's lots of fun, as somewhat freed from
narrative convention, director Richard Griffin by and large abandons
subtlety and makes this one a loving tribute to both vintage giallo films
and inparticular their trailers, but not without having fun with the
format, and really going for hyperbole wherever needed. And one can't but
admit, Griffin most certainly has the imagery of the giallo down to the t,
at least as much as the narrative formula. And the result is just
wonderful, not only but especially for fans of vintage giallo cinema.
