Monique (Joelle Coeur) and Jackie (Gilda Arancio) are two teenage
hitchhikers who just got tired of sleeping in a tent every night on their
journey to God-knows-where, so when they find a seemingly abandoned
mansion that still houses a perfetly usable bed, they use it - and have
sex on it, too. Later the night, Monique finds out the mansion is also the
hideout of small-fry crook Fred (Willy Braque), and to keep him from doing
anything drastic, she has sex with him on the spot. Later, Jackie joins in
too. The next day, the girls are on their way while Fred meets up with his
boss Béatrice (Francois Brincourt) - who finds Fred's loot missing.
Figuring the loot must be with the hitchhikers, they capture them, and
while they torture Jackie, Monique manages to get away by seducing
Béatrice's henchman (Francois Brincourt). She runs to town to hire a
private detective (Pierre Julien), but when he and his assistant (Reine
Thirion) arrive on the scene, too, they only make things worse, and soon
the baddies have gotten their hands on Monique too to torture her. But
somehow the girls and the detective win the upper hand ... when a random
guy (Jean Rollin) shows up, tells them he has taken the loot but it's not
worth anything because Fred has stolen fake gems ... Schoolgirl
Hitchhikers is certainly not Jean Rollin's crowning achievement or a
particularly remarkable film in any which way - but it is a rather
entertaining little romp nevertheless, a very light-footed variation on
dark thriller motives with the tongue firmly in cheek, that at the same
time manages to come across as very stylish and atmospheric despite a very
low budget. Oh, and the girls are all pretty sexy, too. So yeah, no big
movie, but if 1970's genre erotica with a healthy dose of irony is your
thing, you're likely to like this.
